When I first opened this book, I saw exactly what I expected—pages upon pages of female models, poses neatly categorized. But I found something else as I pored over the volume.
Mixed in with the beautiful photographs are time-saving tips that cover an array of topics, including camera angles, lighting, post-production work, and styling, to name a few. But the posing illustrations stand alone as being a wonderful tool.
The models’ photos are grouped into categories (e.g. standing, reclining). Included in the two-page spread is an illustration of the lighting setup. Finally, some of the individual shots contain notes about posing pitfalls, as well as solid choices.
While most of the photos are shot in a fashion style, I found it easy to see how they could easily be used to pose women—as well as some men—in the positions for portraits. That alone makes the book an invaluable reference in any photographer’s library.
