Workflow, workflow, workflow

Fazia Rizvi will take you on a tour of one of the essential asset management tools of professional photographers, and show you how you can use it to mange your own photos and videos, zipping through photo processing tasks that used to take hours. We’ll walk through the options available on importing photos, either from a camera or from an archived collection, then explore the Library and Develop Modules. You’ll learn how invaluable Lightrooom is to managing your organization’s photos, and speeding up your editing and publishing time.

You’ll also learn to:

  •  Import, tag, and catalog your photos
  •  Review, compare, and otherwise manage your images
  •  Create quick, smart, and manual collections
  • Enhance your images – make them pop without having to start up Photoshop
  •  Export your photos for print and web
  • Create smart edits and backup the catalogue

This course is targeted towards beginners who have no knowledge of Lightroom.

February 14: Learning Lightroom

Before celebrating your love on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2014, join the Austin Adobe User Group on Friday afternoon, 1:15 pm – 3:30 pm, and fall in love with Adobe Lightroom. Is it an alternative to Photoshop? We’ll discuss that. More than an image database and selection tool, Lightroom can be used for quick and easy non-destructive image adjustments:  photo resizing and optimizing, image correction and retouching, radial filters, video slideshows and more. Karen Kreps will share why she resisted using Lightroom for a long time, but has succumbed to its power and she’ll offer a bouquet of feature demonstrations. Chocolates are, of course, welcome.

About the Presenter:

Through her company Net Ingenuity, Karen Kreps enables other people’s success by providing content strategy, website production and WordPress coaching. She’s had a more than quarter century experience developing online, interactive media and she’s been an active member of this group since its inception as a Macromedia special interest group.

August 9, 2013 – Photo retouching & glamorization with Photoshop

Adobe Certified Photoshop Instructor Carolyn Coffey will do a live demo tutorial about retouching and glamorization. Carolyn teaches Photographic Retouching at Austin Community College and is currently finishing a book on Photoshop CS6.

Carolyn says “Photoshop is another tool for all of us photographers to use in our quest for an amazing image. The viewer of stunning images are growing less concerned about whether something was Photoshopped. In fact, they expect it. So it has transformed from “whether or not” into “where is it.” Retouchers should leave no trace. They should also always respect the character of the person in the photograph. Enhance only, never destroy.

“This seminar will be based on the above principals. I will demonstrate ways to clean up distractions without compromising the original intent of the photographer. Then I will show the art of glamorization to enhance the beauty of a young woman.”

Date: Friday August 9, 2013
Time: 1:15-3:30 p.m.
Place: New Horizons Computer Learning Center (300 E Highland Mall Blvd. Suite 100) turn north onto Jonathan and park in the Visitor parking area

Fix photos with Photoshop & more

Karen Kreps, www.netingenuity.com, will begin the presentation by showing how to process groups of images in Fireworks and Photoshop – how to optimize them for the web, add watermarks and more. Then we will look at ways to improve photos, add special effects, etc.

Many folks know a lot about Photoshop; everyone will have a chance to share ideas on how to improve submitted photos. If you have a photo you’d like the group to work on, upload it to dbinbox.com/austinadobegroupmgr. By uploading the file you are confirming that you own the file and/or have permission to upload and share the file. Or email them to austinadobegroupmgr@gmail.com.

Create Awesome Photos with Photoshop by Carolyn Coffey at Friday December 14, 2012 (1:15 – 3:30)

Want to make your average photos look extraordinary, and be proud when someone asks if you used Photoshop? As our presenter says, “Photoshop is another tool you have available to you to wow yourself and others The original scene caught your attention enough to record it, now let it consume you. Use all the tools you have to make it as awesome as possible.” This presentation/tutorial will be about Retouching, Glamorization, Blend modes and Page Layouts.

Adobe Certified Instructor Carolyn Coffey (portfolio), who “treasures Photoshop as much as I treasures my camera. Both give me the ability to bring thought and execution to my art” has been teaching Photoshop in the Photography Dept. at Austin Community College since 2003. Before Photoshop she was a retouch artist for 18 years, using dyes, pencils, and an airbrush to manipulate, enhance, and restore images.

We’ll have some goodies to celebrate the holidays. And also – for current members – the semi annual door prizes from our sponsors and from Adobe.
